'The Odyssey' point-and-click adventure game in review!
If you fancy an adventure, you should definitely try this game! This game released today for Windows 7 PCs and Ubuntu Linux Desktops. These 2 platforms added to the 4 main ones (iPad, iPhone, Playbook, Touchpad) totaling 6! I personally played the game on my Windows 7 64bit PC and it run perfectly. Enough said, now let's talk about gaming...
The game:
The game is a classic old style point-and-click adventure game. This game is perfect for the ones that miss the good old Sierra games (Kings Quest) and the classical Lucas Art ones (Monkey island). In overall you play the greek hero Ulysses who you must guide along his journey home after the fall of Troy. The game follows the original plot of Homer starting from Calypso island till the end murdering the suitors. Clicking on objects or a person will provide you with the options available but it certainly is quite challenging.
Graphics / Animation:
The graphics are very good. Screens are in Full HD (1080p). Most of them are gorgeous and full of color and some other are quite good. The game fills the screen and adjusts the resolution automatically and it run perfectly on my Full HD 26' monitor. The game is huge (over 30 playing screens) and it will keep you playing for weeks if you don't use and tips. (Which I am sure you will) One thing is for sure, you will find yourself stuck in many places but will talk about tips later on. The animation is minimal. You wont see your character moving around but instead fading from one place to another wich looked weird in the beginning but I got used to it later on and even liked it because it saved me many 'walking' minutes.
Puzzles:
HARD, HARD, HARD! If you solved this game without any tips please drop me an email to congratulate you personally!!! There are some places that you will freeze for a long time and will think of tips for sure. So are there any tips? Not really, this is the old school adventure gaming: That means no tips! For the ones that are desperate for help there is a 'tips' button in the game that takes you to the game's facebook page where tips are given. (Here it is: http://www.facebook.com/crazysoftlimited) Overall puzzles are great: You will fix rafts, calibrate harps, fight beggars, target with arrows, drive ships and much more...
Sound/Music:
I personally loved the music. You will hear a lot of flouts, mandolins and ancient sounds. Its great, it makes a very good atmosphere. The sound effects are exactly what you expect to be. I must mention that there are many different songs to hear and it seems that every place you visit you hear a different tune.
Overall:
Being a Lucas/Sierra addicted fan, I loved this game. It kept me playing for several hours each day and when I finished it (with tips ofcaurse) I wanted more. I totally recommend it to all the genre fans and all the other guys who are just bored playing 'hidden object' games. I give it a 5/5 score and I wish I will see more like this soon.
